The hypocrisy of the US government is absolutely astounding. The Bush administration has been chastising the Russians over the Georgian situation, yet sees no problem with the US bombing, occupying and interfering with the internal affairs of other countries. Check out Glen Greenwald's latest over at Salon:
"A Justice Department plan would loosen restrictions on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to allow agents to open a national security or criminal investigation against someone without any clear basis for suspicion, Democratic lawmakers briefed on the details said Wednesday."
Do we really need to give more power to an already huge monster?

"This database is, in a sense, worse than a watch list," he said. "At least in the watch-list scenario, there's some reason why the name got on the list. Here, the only thing a person does to come to the attention of DHS is to lawfully cross the border. The theory of this data collection is: Track everyone -- just in case."
Under the system, officials record name, birth date, gender, date and time of crossing, and a photo, where available, for U.S. travelers returning to the country by land, sea or air. The same information is gathered about foreign travelers, but it is held for 75 years. -- Greg Nojeim

I found this quote while doing some searches on libertarianism and tyranny. I'm not sure of the context of Mr. Murrow's quote but felt it stands pretty well on it's own considering the events of the last 8 years. The purpose of this blog is just for me to post links to eyebrow raising articles that I come across and keep the editorializing to a minimum (maybe).
